Barbados : "Little England"
Barbados lays about 100 miles east of the Windward chain and has the most pleasant climate in the region. It is one of the Caribbean's most visited islands by tourists. After the Second World War John decided to sail from the U.S.A. to Australia so he could get back with Mary, despite the fact he had never sailed in his life before. Most freqently visited by large day charter catamarans from Union Island where most have flown in to the airport from places like Martinique and Barbados for the day. St. Lucia, the largest of the English speaking Windwards, is an independent nation with a British tradition and strong French influences. It is mountainous and lush, with many beautiful white sand beaches. Tropical rain forest covers the steep slopes of the center and gives way to cultivated agricultural land around the more moderately sloping coastal fringe.St. Vincent is an island of towering mountains, craggy peaks and dramatic precipices. Everything is dressed in a tangle of dense green forest. St. Vincent's steep and wild terrain was among the last to be settled by Europeans.PSV is a very quiet and exclusive resort where the guests get pampered in secluded stone cottages.
The inhabitants live by boatbuilding, seafaring and fishing, and in days of old, by smuggling. There are usually several cargo vessels at anchor in the bay. The wooden, pitched roof houses are photogenic, especially at the eastern end of the island.
The few hundred islanders who call this home are happy to see you and it is well worth exploring on foot. Visit both the village and the windward beaches.
Salt Whistle Bay has a sweeping half moon beach, and the Salt Whistle Bay Club is tucked away behind it. The resort is so well hidden in the trees that people who sail in the bay often question whether it is really there.
Saline Bay has another long and lovely beach and from here it is just a short walk up hill to the village and the handful of restaurants that depend on visiting tourists and yachts for their existence.
